Nutrition product maker and manufacturer Science in Sport (more commonly known as SiS) is poised to buyout competitor PhD nutrition for around £32 million.

The growth of nutrition and sports performance drinks and food products for the “everyday” athlete has been massive in the past ten years, leading to huge growth in the industry.

Stephen Moon, chief executive of SiS, said: “The acquisition of PhD is highly complementary, doubles the size of our business and accelerates our ambition to become a global leader in premium performance nutrition.

“It is a compelling combination that will deliver a wider product offering, including premium protein, provide broader consumer reach and greater international presence, and dovetails our respective strengths in retail and e-commerce channels”

Science in Sports is regularly seen as one of the major brands in the nutrition market, in particular its Isotonic Gels are one of the industries leading performers.

The Independent put the SiS Gels in their top ten products for runners earlier this year.
